17-Year-Old Arrested After Loaded Handgun Recovered in North Charleston
Officers recovered a loaded handgun and charged a 17-year-old with unlawful possession after a foot pursuit following a bicycle equipment stop near Midland Park Road.
Just before 10 p.m., North Charleston Police Department Patrol South Evenings Team 1 stopped two cyclists for missing required nighttime lights; one fled and was caught after a brief foot pursuit. Officers said the 17-year-old reached toward his waistband during detention, but was restrained and a loaded handgun (one round in the chamber, five in the magazine) was recovered. He was charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Person Under 18, released to a parent on a custodial promise, and is expected to appear in future court proceedings.
