CHAMPLIN, Minn. — An 82-year-old Minnesota grandmother who believed older adults should not lose everyday freedoms after moving into assisted living has helped change state law, allowing nursing homes and assisted living facilities to serve alcohol during organized social events without obtaining a traditional liquor license, Fox 9 reported. The bipartisan measure, informally known as the “Grandparents’ Happy Hour” law, was recently celebrated during a ceremonial bill signing with Gov. Tim Walz at the Champlin senior living community where the effort began.
