Adaptive gardening comes to life at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation
Members of Good Shepherd’s spinal cord injury peer mentor program led a hands-on workshop teaching beginner-friendly techniques, using adaptive tools, and creating take-home projects in the hospital therapy garden.
Members of Good Shepherd’s spinal cord injury (SCI) peer mentor program brought adaptive gardening to life at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital.
Participants learned beginner-friendly gardening techniques from master gardener Judy Gilotti, created their own “make and take” cat grass project, learned about planting tomatoes and herbs in the therapy garden and discovered adaptive gardening tools designed to make gardening more accessible.
The event also featured peer mentors who shared their own experiences, tips and encouragement during hands-on activities.
Good Shepherd’s SCI peer mentor program is known as SPINE (Supportive Peer Interaction for Neurological Empowerment).
