Both Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough have ordinances governing fireworks use. Consumer fireworks may be used only with property owner permission, not within 150 feet of an occupied structure, not while under the influence, not thrown from vehicles or buildings, and only during permitted hours (midnight–8 a.m. most days; 12:30 a.m.–8 a.m. on Jan. 1), and use is limited to seven days around federal holidays; large aerial fireworks are restricted to professionals with permits. Police will respond to complaints and may file charges for violations of these provisions.
