Police responded to a domestic disturbance at 706 Chestnut St. on Aug. 12, 2026, after a woman reported Raymond Bailey was intoxicated, brandishing a handgun and allegedly shot the family dog.
At about 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 12, 2026, New Castle officers were called to 706 Chestnut Street after a female victim said Raymond Bailey, allegedly under the influence, was brandishing a handgun and a gunshot was heard that appeared to hit the family dog. Officers established a perimeter, requested the Lawrence County Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.), obtained a search warrant and used chemical munitions after hours of negotiation; Bailey, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, exited about 30 minutes after the munitions and was taken into custody without incident. A protective sweep later found the dog deceased; charges against Bailey are being prepared and the investigation remains ongoing.
