Bensalem police use 'Behind Closed Doors' trailer at Back-to-school nights
A simulated child’s bedroom trailer helped parents spot warning signs of substance abuse, mental-health concerns and abusive relationships at local Back-to-School Nights.
Throughout September, the Bensalem Township Police Department brought its “Behind Closed Doors” trailer to Back-to-School Nights at Bensalem High School, Shafer Middle School and Snyder Middle School. The simulated child’s bedroom gives parents a hands-on way to recognize early warning signs of substance abuse, mental-health issues, abusive relationships and other at-risk behaviors, and offers conversation and intervention strategies. The program reinforces the partnership between the school district and police to boost parental awareness, encourage early communication and provide resources to keep students and the community safe.
