Board of Trustees unanimously approves Lafayette’s third Climate Action Plan
Unanimously approved May 22, CAP 3.0 updates the 2019 plan with resiliency and adaptation measures and six priority areas to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.
Thank you to the students, faculty, and staff passionate about Lafayette’s continued dedication to climate efforts, who shared their thoughts this year during the planning process to update the Climate Action Plan (CAP). CAP 3.0 was presented to and unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees May 22.
The plan builds on CAP 2.0, released in 2019, and outlines a roadmap to decrease emissions related to campus operations and activities to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. New to this CAP, the plan addresses resiliency and adaptation measures, which are key to ensuring future campus operations are safeguarded from long-term climate impacts.
The CAP focuses on six main areas:
- Decarbonizing heating, cooling, and hot water
- Electricity solutions
- Transportation
- Waste and procurement
- Metzgar net zero plan
- Resiliency adaptation measures
The full Climate Action Plan and accompanying materials will be launched this fall and available to the community at large. It includes call-outs to the educational synergies and opportunities available for hands-on learning in each topic area.
