Breezewood braces for turnpike bypass
Design work for a new I-70 interchange would reroute traffic around Breezewood, threatening the town’s long-standing role as a highway rest-stop hub.
BREEZEWOOD, Pa. — A Pennsylvania Turnpike traveler’s dream could become a nightmare for this rest-stop oasis that once billed itself as the “Town of Motels.”
The turnpike commission has greenlit design work on a new interchange with Interstate 70 that would provide motorists a seamless connection between the toll road and interstate. Gone would be the truck-clogged travelers’ gauntlet through a two-mile gridlocked stretch of Breezewood.
