Chambersburg reminds public: most fireworks now banned inside borough
Town Council adopted a local law on March 27, 2023, banning the ignition of most consumer-grade fireworks inside the Borough; sales remain allowed but display fireworks require a professional permit and violations carry a $500 fine.
On March 27, 2023, Borough Council adopted a local law, enabled by Pennsylvania Act 74 of 2022, that prohibits igniting most “Class C” consumer fireworks anywhere inside the Borough. Stores may still sell consumer fireworks (up to 50 milligrams), and novelties and ground/hand‑held sparklers and toy caps remain allowed, but use of other consumer fireworks is prohibited; display fireworks and professional aerial shells require a permit from Borough Hall. The Chambersburg Police will enforce the ordinance (report violations to Franklin County Dispatcher at 717‑263‑1611); violations are a summary offense with a $500 fine plus any other legal penalties.
