DA McCormack attends national Rapid DNA convening
Cumberland County DA Seán M. McCormack joined multidisciplinary teams from 15 states in Raleigh to discuss Rapid DNA deployment, CODIS integration, and disaster victim identification.
District Attorney Seán M. McCormack was one of Pennsylvania’s three representatives at the National Convening on Rapid DNA in Raleigh, hosted by the National Criminal Justice Association Center for Forensic DNA Policy & Practice, where teams from 15 states examined strategies for maximizing Rapid DNA’s public-safety benefits. Rapid DNA is a fully automated process that can develop a DNA profile within 90 minutes to two hours without a traditional lab, and participants discussed CODIS integration, booking-station deployment, forensic uses, DVI and regional databases. McCormack highlighted Cumberland County’s early adoption since 2017 — including use in a homicide, identifying remains from house fires, the recent identification of missing person Kim Gsell, and the county lab’s assistance in identifying victims of the Med Jets Flight 056 crash — and praised the work of his Forensic Investigation Division and Director Eric Radnovich.
