Doug Lane says the gift wasn’t a carefully considered philanthropic strategy — there was no committee, no months of deliberation, and no detailed prospectus. After touring a building still wrapped in scaffolding and talking with the right person, a look exchanged between Doug and his wife Gay on the first floor led them to make the gift.
