Elevated fire danger in Northeast Pa. through Thursday evening
National Weather Service warns of dry, windy conditions and rapid fire spread risk until 7 p.m. Thursday for several Northeast Pennsylvania counties.
A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Thursday at 8:40 a.m. for elevated fire danger until 7 p.m. for Northern Wayne and Southern Wayne as well as Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Pike counties.
"A combination of dry and windy conditions this afternoon will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across Northeast Pennsylvania. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 25 to 35% accompanied by wind gusts between 15 and 25 mph. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. This statement has been issued in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources," comments the weather service.
