Elevated fire danger posted for parts of Pennsylvania through Thursday evening

National Weather Service warns of low humidity and gusty south winds raising wildfire spread risk across many central and western Pennsylvania counties.

A report from the National Weather Service was issued on Thursday at 7:46 a.m. for elevated fire danger until 6 p.m. for Westmoreland Ridges, Fayette Ridges and Higher Elevations of Indiana as well as Mercer, Venango, Forest, Lawrence, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, Beaver, Allegheny, Armstrong, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties.

"The combination of dry and breezy conditions will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across most of central Pennsylvania today. Minimum relative humidity values will be between 25 to 35% with wind gusts from the south between 15 and 20 mph," according to the weather service.
