Flash flood warning for Lawrence and Mercer counties until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday

Heavy thunderstorms dropped up to 1.5 inches of rain and the National Weather Service warns additional rain may cause flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

At 10:33 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in effect until Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. for Lawrence and Mercer counties.

"At 10:33 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," according to the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
