The North Charleston Police Department says an authorized July 4 block party in the Chicora-Cherokee community escalated into gunfire, fireworks aimed at vehicles and multiple fights; officers responding recovered several firearms and a makeshift spear. Four juveniles face charges including third-degree assault by mob, assault on police while resisting arrest, resisting arrest, possession of a machine gun and breach of peace. Two adults were also arrested: 19-year-old Giovanni Mekhi Sincere Campbell faces possession of a machine gun, and 18-year-old Sa'Mya Adriana Collette Weaver faces breach of peace and assault on police while resisting arrest; multiple officers were assaulted and two female officers sustained minor injuries as the investigation continues.
