The North Charleston Police Department says a permitted block party in the Chicora‑Cherokee community on the evening of July 4 erupted in gunfire, multiple fights and assaults on officers. Four juveniles were taken into custody facing charges including Assault by Mob (3rd Degree), Assault on Police while Resisting Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Machine Gun and Breach of Peace; 19‑year‑old Giovanni Mekhi Sincere Campbell is charged with Possession of a Machine Gun and 18‑year‑old Sa'Mya Adriana Collette Weaver is charged with Breach of Peace and Assault on Police While Resisting Arrest. Officers recovered multiple firearms and a makeshift spear, two female officers sustained minor injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing with the possibility of additional charges.
