Four‑o’clock flowers, evening primrose and jewelweed bloom at dusk
Native evening-blooming plants open toward dusk for nighttime pollinators; yellow jewelweed is spreading in wet spots and attracts migrating hummingbirds, while walnut trees drop leaves as their nuts fall in September.
It’s now September and it’s easy to pick out walnut trees from others in deciduous areas. They’re lighter in color, largely due to many of their leaves being yellow. Walnuts begin dropping their leaves now when their nuts start falling to the ground.
