Girls Cross Country Runners of the Week (Sept. 22): Locals shine at New Jersey 'class' meet
New Jersey "class" meets pair athletes by age in major races, boosting competition and confidence — a format worth considering for Pennsylvania schools. Each week we pick top high‑school girls cross‑country performers from regional conferences and our New Jersey coverage area.
The “class” meets, which generally don’t exist in Pennsylvania, allow New Jersey athletes to take on just runners their own age in a major meet. The resulting gains for confidence and competition are not small; Keystone State schools should consider such meets.
Each week we will choose a Runner of the Week from the EPC, the Colonial League and the lehighvalleylive New Jersey coverage region, plus Honorable Mentions, and then an overall Runner of the Week.
