The annual Oct. 31 Halloween tradition has children dress in costumes, knock on neighbors’ doors and ask for candy. Its roots go back to traditions surrounding Samhain and All Hallows Eve, while modern festivities range from jack-o-lanterns and scary movies to spooky stories, parties and haunted houses.
