Helen L. Chunko (1944 – 2026)

Helen L. Chunko, 81, of Hellertown, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. She was the wife of Joseph John Chunko. She was born in Bethlehem on Dec. 10, 1944 to the late William Walter and Velma Elizabeth (Morris) Ihrig. Helen spent many years as a clerk at the Lost River Caverns, Hellertown, and as a secretary at ServiceMaster, Springtown. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life; she was a former member of the Hellertown Lions Club, where she actively contributed to various community initiatives. Helen was not only a dedicated Lion but also a devoted partner to her husband, Joe. She traveled extensively with him during his tenures as the Lions District 14K Governor, supporting him in his efforts and adventures, including on trips as far as Seattle, Wash.

SURVIVORS

In addition to her loving husband of 47 years; stepchildren: Theresé and her husband Andy Sheets of Florida, Michael Chunko of Easton, Mark and his wife Stacey Chunko of Palmerton; sisters: Eleanor Chunko of Hellertown, Betty Hoffman of Hellertown; stepdaughter-in-law: Beth Miller of Pen Argyl; step-grandchildren: Brittany Shreve, Barry Chunko and Teila Miller. She was predeceased by her stepson Joseph John Chunko II; step-grandson: Zackery Chunko.

SERVICES

A private graveside service will be held at The Union Cemetery of Hellertown. The Connell Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Hellertown, is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be offered at Connellfalk.com.
