During the week of Aug. 21–27, Newtown and Wrightstown police logged multiple scam attempts — including computer pop-up and phone scams — that, in reported cases, resulted in no monetary loss. On Aug. 21 a hit-and-run struck two pedestrians who suffered non-life-threatening injuries; the driver was later identified and charged. Separate traffic contacts and a single-vehicle incident on Aug. 22–23 led to arrests for suspected DUI, while Wrightstown reports included a business theft of about $2,000, an unauthorized bank charge of over $2,000, altered cashed checks and an Etsy seller who had funds withdrawn; investigations into those frauds and recent fraudulent charges on bank and PayPal accounts are ongoing.
