Lower Saucon Seeks Resident Input on Landfill Study
Township mailed postcards and is collecting anonymous online responses through July 31 to inform a financial study on the Bethlehem Landfill’s potential closure.
If you’re a Lower Saucon Township resident and want to share your thoughts about economic development and land use in the township with your elected officials, you currently have an opportunity to do that by responding to a community survey. A survey postcard was recently mailed to township households to advertise the anonymous survey, which is available online.
“(Resident) feedback is an important part of an ongoing financial study regarding the potential closure of the Bethlehem Landfill and will help Township Council better understand resident priorities and community needs,” officials said. “The landfill has historically provided the Township with $1.9 to $2.5 million in revenue annually, but also has legal, environmental, woodland and wildlife preservation, health impacts and property value costs.”
The survey asks residents for input on the types of development they would support, what they believe the township’s priorities should be, what types of infrastructure improvements they believe are needed and what their environmental concerns are. It includes both multiple choice questions and questions with fields that allow participants to record their own answers.
“Your responses will help the Township Council understand resident perspectives on the future of the landfill and the trade-offs involved if revenue from the landfill ends,” officials said.
The survey is available until July 31.
