Lower Swatara Police to Take Part in 2026 Teen Seat Belt Enforcement

Enforcement and outreach Oct. 18–24 near Middletown Area School District to boost teen seat belt use.

Published Oct 8, 2026, 7:49 PM EDT | Northampton Crimewatch

Released Oct. 8, 2026, the Lower Swatara Township Police Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will conduct seat belt enforcement and outreach during National Teen Driver Safety Week, Oct. 18–24, 2026, in the area of the Middletown Area School District campus. The mobilization aims to increase teen seat belt use and remind the public that Pennsylvania’s primary law requires all vehicle occupants under 18 to buckle up; drivers and front-seat passengers over 18 who are cited for another violation also face a second citation if unbuckled. Nationally, in 2024, 53% of teen drivers of passenger vehicles who were killed in crashes were unbuckled; more information is available at pa.gov/dotsafety.
