Man Arrested After Attempted Burglary, Foot Pursuit in Clifton
Deputies chased and tasered a 58-year-old man after he tried to open a closed business door; suspected methamphetamine was found and multiple charges were filed.
On July 5, 2026, Mesa County deputies responded to a report of a man trying to open the doors of a closed business on the 3200 block of F Road in Clifton and spotted a suspect running west on F Road. A deputy began a foot pursuit, a sergeant joined by vehicle, and deployed a taser near I-70 Business to take the suspect, identified as Steven Allen, 58 of Grand Junction, into custody. Deputies found suspected methamphetamine on Allen, who was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on second-degree burglary (Felony 4), criminal attempt (Felony 5), obstructing a peace officer (Misdemeanor 2), resisting arrest (Misdemeanor 2) and possession of a controlled substance (Drug Misdemeanor 1); he was also linked to an earlier shoplifting attempt at the same business.
