On July 5, 2026, Mesa County deputies responded to a report of a man attempting to open doors of a closed business on the 3200 block of F Road in Clifton. Deputies pursued and, after a sergeant deployed a taser, took 58-year-old Steven Allen of Grand Junction into custody; deputies found suspected methamphetamine on him and linked him to an earlier shoplifting attempt at the same business. Allen was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on multiple charges including second-degree burglary (Felony 4), criminal attempt (Felony 5), obstructing a peace officer (Misdemeanor 2), resisting arrest (Misdemeanor 2), and possession of a controlled substance (Drug Misdemeanor 1).
