An off-duty North Charleston officer, alerted by Walmart Asset Protection, found 29-year-old Brandon Tyler Driggers in a restroom after he allegedly concealed merchandise in a backpack. Officers reported he held a glass pipe commonly associated with smoking crack and a paper containing 40 pink pills marked "1/2" plus an additional pill identified as clonazepam; he could not produce a valid prescription. With prior grand larceny and drug convictions and a July 2023 trespass notice on record, Driggers was charged with Property Crime Enhancement–Shoplifting, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance, and Trespassing After Notice and was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
