Maplewood hit-and-run driver accused of striking bike-safety leader arrested on DWI charge
A Maplewood driver allegedly struck the leader of a local bike safety group on Feb. 25, fled while dragging the bike and was later arrested and charged, including with DWI.
A driver accused of hitting the leader of a Maplewood bike safety group with her car and leaving the scene was arrested and charged with multiple crimes as well as DWI, police announced Tuesday.
John Speck was hit around 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 near Parker Avenue by what witnesses described as a BMW-style SUV that fled east on the road toward Fernwood Road, according to a statement from the Maplewood Police Department. The SUV was still dragging the bike as it left the scene.
