Massive great white 'Contender' detected off North Carolina's Outer Banks
Researchers say the largest male great white ever tagged in the western North Atlantic, nicknamed Contender, was detected near the Outer Banks as it migrates up the East Coast.
OUTER BANKS, N.C. — Researchers tracking one of the largest great white sharks ever tagged in the western North Atlantic say the massive predator has been detected near North Carolina’s Outer Banks as it continues its annual seasonal migration along the East Coast. The sighting has renewed interest in the movements of the nearly 1,700-pound shark known as Contender, The Independent reported.
