Measles spreads to more Pa. counties as cases near 1,100
State reports 1,078 cases as of Oct. 5; many of the newly reported infections occurred more than two weeks earlier and are no longer contagious.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed 1,078 measles cases across 41 counties as of Oct. 5, with five deaths and 207 hospitalizations reported since the outbreak began in late April.
The department added 74 cases in its latest update, though more than 40 of those represent individuals who were sick more than two weeks ago and are no longer contagious. Their cases were only recently reported and confirmed, meaning the update does not reflect a surge in new infections.
