Medication drop boxes available across McKean County to dispose of unused drugs
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg‑Shaffer says secure drop boxes at municipal buildings and police facilities are emptied quarterly and destroyed by the National Guard as part of a statewide effort to reduce access to opioids.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg‑Shaffer announced medication drop boxes are located at the Kane Municipal Building, Bradford Township Municipal Building, City of Bradford Police Department, McKean County Sheriff’s Department and the Pennsylvania State Police–Lewis Run barracks. Boxes are emptied quarterly by a County Detective and turned over to the National Guard for destruction; this quarter’s collected weights were Kane 6.5 lbs., Bradford Township 16.5 lbs., McKean County Sheriff’s Office 24 lbs., City of Bradford Police 83.5 lbs., and PA State Police 3 lbs. Residents are urged to bring unused prescriptions to the nearest box to keep them out of others’ hands and to report suspected illegal drug activity to Chief County Detective Ryan Yingling at (814) 887‑3312 or submit a tip at McKeanDA.org.
