Medication drop boxes available in McKean County for unused prescriptions
The District Attorney’s Office lists drop-box locations and quarterly collection totals for secure medication disposal across McKean County.
On July 21, 2026, McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer announced secure medication drop boxes at the Kane Municipal Building, Bradford Township Municipal Building, City of Bradford Police Department, McKean County Sheriff’s Department and the Pennsylvania State Police–Lewis Run barracks. A County Detective empties the boxes each quarter and arranges destruction by a National Guard member as part of a state-wide initiative to reduce access to opiates; this quarter’s collections were Kane 6.5 lbs., Bradford Township 16.5 lbs., McKean County Sheriff’s Office 24 lbs., City of Bradford Police 83.5 lbs., and PA State Police 3 lbs. The boxes were sponsored by the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association and PA American Water Company; residents are urged to dispose of unused medication and to report suspected illegal drug activity to Chief County Detective Ryan Yingling at (814) 887-3312 or submit a tip at McKeanDA.org.
