Mesa County forms dedicated inmate Transport Unit to improve safety
A new dedicated Transport Unit centralizes inmate movements for medical and court needs to improve safety for deputies, inmates and the community.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has created a dedicated Transport Unit within Court Services, led by Sgt. Craig Bowen under Lt. David “Bucky” Holdren, selecting weapon-certified deputies Maximus Wiltse and Ryan Cassidy to centralize inmate movements previously handled by Detention and Courthouse deputies and contracted guards. The split into Court Security and Inmate Transport aims to reduce supervisory strain, improve safety during about 3–6 weekly medical visits and roughly 15 long-haul transports per month, expand cross‑training and explore virtual mental‑health appointments to limit unnecessary outside transports.
