Michigan Republicans press Canada to act after wildfire smoke reaches U.S.
Michigan GOP lawmakers say smoke from hundreds of Canadian wildfires has created unhealthy air across parts of the U.S. and want Canada to step up forest management and wildfire mitigation.
A group of Republican members of Congress from Michigan is again pressing Canada to take stronger action on wildfire prevention, arguing that smoke from this year’s fires has created unhealthy air conditions across parts of the United States and is affecting public health, the CBC reported. In a letter sent to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the lawmakers said they believe more aggressive forest management and wildfire mitigation efforts are needed to reduce the frequency and severity of fires.
