Middletown warns of phone scam targeting electric customers
Scammers are calling Middletown residents claiming to be from the municipal electric department and requesting payments; the borough says it never accepts phone payments.
The Borough of Middletown reports scammers are calling residents and businesses, falsely claiming to represent the municipal electric department and requesting payments or meter-related information. The borough warns it never accepts payments over the phone or asks for gift cards, prepaid debit cards, mobile cash apps, or cryptocurrency; official payments are accepted only via the municipal online portal, in person at Borough Hall, or the secure drop box. Contact the Borough at 717-902-0706 or [email protected] to verify account status and report suspicious calls, and file a report with the Middletown Police if you believe you were scammed.
