Mobile Apps Every Parent Should Know
As students return to school, parents are urged to learn which apps children use, the risks they pose, and how to stay involved in their digital lives.
As students head back to school, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department urges parents to learn the apps their children use — examples include Roblox, TikTok, Snapchat, Discord, WhatsApp, Wizz, Kik, Telegram, Yubo, MeetMe, Zoosk, Whisper, Reddit and Parler, plus disguised apps like Best Secret Folder and Calculator%. Features such as direct messaging, livestreaming, anonymous chats, location sharing and disappearing messages can obscure interactions, and gaming platforms may include chat features, friend requests and in-app purchases. Parents should know who their child is talking to, what they are sharing, and keep an ongoing conversation about online safety.
