On Sept. 26, 2026, at about 6 p.m., Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports that a motorcyclist had aggressively approached a car and brandished a firearm along Highway 50 between Grand Junction and Whitewater. The victims—two adults and two children—said the rider pointed the gun while riding parallel to their vehicle, then re-holstered and sped ahead. Deputies located the motorcycle near mile marker 49, conducted a high-risk traffic stop, recovered a pistol and arrested 56-year-old Michael Johnson of Montrose; he was booked on four counts of Menacing – real/simulated weapon (Felony 5) and taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility.
