The North Charleston Police Department says a permitted block party in the Chicora‑Cherokee community on the evening of July 4, 2026, devolved after reports of gunfire and fireworks being shot at vehicles around 8:30 p.m. Officers ordered attendees to disperse, intervened in multiple fights and recovered several firearms and a makeshift spear; several people were arrested. Multiple officers were assaulted, two female officers sustained minor injuries; NCPD thanked compliant attendees and assisting agencies and urged anyone with information to contact the department via the CRIMEWATCH app.
