NCPD Urges Sober Boating as Alcohol Tied to 1 in 5 Boating Deaths

Operation Dry Water warns alcohol is responsible for one in five U.S. boating deaths where the primary cause is known, and the North Charleston Police Department is urging recreational boaters to stay sober during the 4th of July holiday weekend. At state and federal levels the BAC legal limit for vessel operation is .08; impaired operators can face arrest, vessel impoundment, fines, jail time and loss of boating or driving privileges. NCPD recommends taking a boating safety course, wearing life jackets, planning ahead and remaining aware on the water.
