NCPD: Violence at Chicora-Cherokee July 4 Block Party
A permitted July 4 block party in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood turned violent after reports of gunfire and fireworks aimed at passing vehicles, NCPD says.
The North Charleston Police Department reports that a city-permitted block party in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood on July 4, 2026, escalated after reports of gunfire and individuals firing fireworks at passing vehicles. Officers repeatedly announced the event was over and tried to de-escalate, but multiple fights and additional shots were reported; officers intervened, recovered firearms and a makeshift spear, and made several arrests. Multiple officers were assaulted (two female officers sustained minor injuries); NCPD thanked cooperative attendees and assisting agencies and urged anyone with information to contact the department via the CRIMEWATCH app.
