New Jersey man arrested in Pike County on attempted trafficking, child-sex charges

A 49-year-old New Jersey man was arrested July 23, 2026, accused of attempting to pay for sexual contact with a 14-year-old in Pike County.

Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced that Michael McGuire, 49, of Rockaway, New Jersey, was arrested July 23, 2026, and charged with criminal attempt in trafficking in individuals, criminal attempt of patronizing a victim of sexual servitude, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, criminal attempt of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and criminal attempt of statutory sexual assault — all felonies. Detectives allege McGuire was willing to travel to Pike County to engage in sexual contact with a 14-year-old for $300; when arrested he was found with two condoms and $300 in cash. Magisterial District Judge Cristin Cavallaro set bail at $400,000, McGuire is held at Pike County Correctional Facility, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 4, 2026; anyone with information about child abuse is urged to contact Pennsylvania Childline at 800-932-0313. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
