Newtown Borough police remind residents of fireworks rules and safety for July 4

The Newtown Borough Police Department reminds residents that only Class C (consumer‑grade) fireworks—such as firecrackers, Roman candles and bottle rockets—may be purchased and used and must contain no more than 50 milligrams of explosive material. Display fireworks require licensed professionals and a municipal permit; salutes over 130 milligrams or aerial shells over 60 grams are classified as professional. The department lists discharge and possession restrictions (including a 150‑foot rule from buildings/vehicles and age limits), product exceptions, and safety tips like buying from licensed vendors, keeping a water source or extinguisher nearby, supervising children and never using fireworks while under the influence.
