No charges after Bonfield Elementary facility dog dies
Lancaster County prosecutors say evidence did not show intentional or reckless conduct after a Bernedoodle facility dog named Callie was left in a vehicle and died.
Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said no criminal charges will be filed after Callie, a Bernedoodle used as a Bonfield Elementary facility dog, was left in a vehicle on June 11 and later found dead. Investigators determined a family member placed Callie in the handler’s car that morning, the handler forgot the dog was in the vehicle while attending a full day of work and responding to a campus flood, and only discovered Callie deceased at the end of the day. The DA concluded there was no evidence of intentional, knowing, or reckless conduct required for animal cruelty charges; the case was reported to Lititz Borough police and reviewed by the DA’s office.
