No charges in death of Bonfield Elementary facility dog
Lancaster County prosecutors said the handler accidentally left the Bernedoodle facility dog, Callie, in her car and investigators found no evidence of intentional or reckless conduct required for animal cruelty charges.
The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced it will not file charges after a Bernedoodle named Callie, a Bonfield Elementary facility dog, was left in a handler’s car on June 11 and later found dead. Investigators determined a family member had placed Callie in the vehicle and the handler forgot she was there, then spent the day at work; prosecutors concluded there was no intentional, knowing or reckless behavior required for animal cruelty charges. The death was reported to Lititz Borough police, who investigated before the DA reviewed the case and declined prosecution.
