An Oct. 13 ruby-throated hummingbird visit in mid-October set a new late-season record in local migration logs, though late stragglers may have always passed unnoticed.
On a recent warm evening that was destined to be one of the last before temperatures dropped, I sat on the deck watching late-day bird movement. I had done the same the evening before and was surprised to see a ruby-throated hummingbird visiting flowers on the deck three times before it got dark.
