Officer Walton Honored After Lifesaving Response in Warwick Township
Officer Walton and more than 15 first responders helped save Warwick High School teacher Douglas Balmer after a June 3 cardiac arrest; Balmer later thanked responders with US Mint American Innovation coins.
On the evening of June 3, NLCRPD Officer Walton was first to arrive at a cardiac arrest in Warwick Township and took over CPR after a neighbor found Warwick High School science teacher Douglas Balmer down in a driveway. More than 15 first responders — including Warwick Community Ambulance crew, multiple fire departments, specialty EMTs, utility personnel, and off-duty Detective Stauffer — provided lifesaving care; Balmer was shocked three times before a pulse and breathing were confirmed. After his recovery, Balmer presented each responder a US Mint American Innovation coin featuring Bernard Lown, and Detective Stauffer said every first responder played a role in saving him.
