A drug-resistant fungus called “Candida auris” is slowly spreading across more than 20 states, including Pennsylvania, according to new data from the CDC.

The Center for Disease Control data shows the fungus has spread across 23 states in 2026, which also includes Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
