Police Release Audio of FBI‑Impersonation Scam Call
Lycoming Regional Police released an audio clip of an Aug. 25, 2026 scam call in which a man impersonated an FBI agent and urged a resident to withdraw money to “protect” her funds.
On Aug. 25, 2026, an Old Lycoming resident received multiple calls from a man claiming to be an FBI agent who said her bank account was being used to buy bomb‑making materials and instructed her to withdraw money. The victim went to the Lycoming Regional Police, who accompanied her home while the fraudulent caller remained on the line; the call was recorded with the victim’s permission and disconnected when officers identified themselves. Police remind the public that federal agencies never instruct you to withdraw funds or keep a phone line open, and advise hanging up, reporting the incident to local police and the FBI at IC3.gov, and notifying your bank if financial information may be compromised.
