Rifle Man Arrested in Grand Junction for Multiple Thefts from Vehicles
Deputies detained a 29-year-old after finding property from multiple vehicles in his backpack on Mesa Avenue; some items were returned to victims.
On July 1, 2026 at 3:20 a.m., Mesa County deputies responded to reports of a person checking vehicle door handles on the 2900 block of Mesa Avenue in Grand Junction and detained Skyler Kemp, 29, of Rifle. Deputies found multiple residents' property in his backpack and returned items when possible; Kemp was booked on felony and misdemeanor counts including criminal possession of multiple financial devices and identification documents, multiple counts of 1st-degree criminal auto trespass with intent to commit a crime, drug possession and paraphernalia, false reporting of identification, violations of protection orders, unauthorized use of a financial transaction device, and a fugitive warrant. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public to remove valuables, take keys, and lock vehicles; no further information is available at this time.
