School Bus Safety Week 2026: Downingtown Police Urge Caution
Downingtown Police asks drivers to stop for buses and reviews safety steps for students and parents during National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 19–23, 2026.
Downingtown Police Department urges drivers to be patient and slow down during National School Bus Safety Week (October 19–23, 2026), and reminds motorists that it is illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its stop sign out, warning lights flashing and stop arm extended. Parents and students are advised to wait at least 10 feet back from the curb, cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus after the door is open and eye contact is made with the driver, never walk behind the bus, and be aware of the 10–12 foot danger zone in front of the bumper, up to 10 feet on either side, the area behind the bus, and the left side where illegal passing may occur; DPD thanks local bus drivers and links to NHTSA for more information.
