Separate arrests in Mesa County for drug possession, assault and tampering

On Aug. 25, 2026, deputies found multiple prescription pills not prescribed to Nathan Davidson, 43, and suspected mushrooms, ayahuasca, crack, cocaine and methamphetamine on a local trail; Davidson, who has three prior felony drug convictions and is on parole, was booked on felony and petty drug charges. Later that day deputies arrested Gene Clark Jr., 59, on charges including second-degree assault by strangulation, criminal mischief ($2,000–$5,000), third-degree assault, obstruction, violation of a protection order and a domestic violence sentence enhancer; Clark had a prior domestic violence-related arrest in January 2026. Around 11 p.m. deputies arrested Jesse Esqueda, 30, for second-degree criminal tampering and a domestic violence enhancer after damaging a vehicle on Morningside Court; Colorado State Patrol investigated a suspected impaired driving hit-and-run. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office urged anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help and reminded the public to report suspected impaired drivers.
